Canadian High School Rugby Coaches Readiness for an Injury Prevention Strategy Implementation: Evaluating a Train-the-Coach Workshop

Background: Canadian rugby coach injury prevention beliefs and attitudes have not been studied, yet are key to informing strategy implementation. Despite neuromuscular training (NMT) warm-up success in reducing injury, adoption of these programs is variable. Therefore, objectives this study included (1) describing youth current practices (2) evaluating intention use a rugby-specific NMT warm-up. Methods: High school coaches completed questionnaire before after workshop. The pre-workshop captured demographics, practice, knowledge use. Both questionnaires beliefs, behavioral intention. Results: Forty-eight participated the workshops. Pre-workshop, 27% were aware warm-ups. Coaches primarily aerobic stretching components, while balance components common their warm-ups over past year. Additionally, 92% agreed some extent they would “complete program prior every game session season.” Post-workshop, 86% that session. No differences observed between pre- post-workshop implement ( p = 0.10). Interpretation: This first examine high, providing ample opportunity investigate efficacy rugby.
